Why people stay
Bikes and trucks don’t make deliveries. People do.
Highgate’s founder spent two decades in last mile logistics before starting this one, including running one of North America’s leading last mile companies. The lesson that stuck is simple: this business is people — riders, crews, dispatchers, clients — and it only runs well when all of them are taken seriously. That shows up in ordinary ways: routes planned before you arrive, and problems answered the same day, whether you are an employee or a carrier.
Pay
On time, every week
New York employees are paid weekly. Contract carriers settle by ACH every Friday — no 30-day terms, no chasing invoices.
Benefits
Coverage for part-timers too
Health insurance, 401(k) with company match and paid time off are offered to part-time and full-time New York employees, not just to people working forty hours.
Schedule
Shifts you can plan around
Short, fixed shift blocks in the same neighborhoods or territory week to week. You know the streets before you clock in, and roughly when you will be done.
Training
Paid from your first day
Training for employees is paid from the first day, and it is run by people who have done the route. Contract carriers train their own crews — to a written standard we set and audit.
Advancement
Team leads come from the road
Because dispatch is in-house, a rider on the road can move into a Highgate office job. Team lead and dispatcher openings are filled from inside first. Carriers who run clean get offered more routes and room to add trucks.
Standards
Safety is not a poster
Equipment is inspected, loads are planned, and we operate under our customers' supplier codes of conduct — and we audit against them rather than assume.
